Denis O’Connor Sr. Girls volleyball team wins LOSSA GOLD
Yesterday was an amazing day for Canadian Women in sports. Canada’s women’s relay team won silver. Chandra Crawford won gold in the cross country sprint, Kristina Groves won silver and Cindy Klassen won gold in the 1500 metre long skate. But the most important accomplishment of the day was achieved by a group we all know. Denis O’Connor Sr. Girls volleyball team won LOSSA GOLD!
After finishing first in their pool the Chargers went on to defeat Brock in semi’finals by scores of 25-19 and 25-14. They then had to meet the season’s first place team, Monsigeur John Pereyma. Pereyma was confident they would be wearing gold medals home but they underestimated the controlled solid play that DO’C is capable of. With great passing and setting our hitters were able to finish each play big. Serves were consistently placed well in the oppositions court and players at the net were ready to defend. Some big blocks kept the girls drive and intensity up. It took 3 games but DO’C came out on top. The girls are all proudly wearing their DO’C jerseys & medals today. Please congratulate them on a job well done. Ms. Cecchettto & Ms. McGuinty would like to thank all the players; power hitters Leandra Mariani,(team captain), Danielle San Martin-Kettrick, Maxine Lawless; middle hitters; Katie Laviolette, Rachelle Mariani, Selina Tao and Shelley Titmarsh and setters Danielle Harrison, Julia Bolton, Ashley Martino and Jesslyn Lewicki for their hard work, intensity and discipline through out the season. The team will compete at OFSSA on March 6, 7 & 8 in Dryden, Ontario
